As LCDs started to be used for such large-sized applications as PC monitors and TVs,the viewing angle problem of LCDs becomes significant. This problem is mainly causedby the optical anisotropy of the liquid crystal layer and light leakage from crossedpolarizers at off axis. To solve the viewing angle problem, optical compensation films are widely used. Discotic liquid crystals exhibiting mesophases are used in many device applications, as compensation film, photoconductors and light emitting diodes. In this study, we present the novel disc-shaped molecule, based on naphthalene and acryloyl derivatives and characterized with fabricated device. |
