Microstructure and mechanical properties of PCL-BCP-HPMC hybrid bone graft substitutes and an evaluation of their biocompatibility |

Hybrid scaffolds have been fabricated by salt-leaching and freeze-drying methods using polycaprolactone (PCL), biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). The obtained organic/inorganic hybrid scaffold showed interconnected and open pores, and a quadrilateral shaped pore of about 200 to 500 μm in diameter. In particular, the microstructures and phase of the porous scaffolds were investigated using the XRD, FT-IR/ATR and SEM techniques. For an evaluation of the biocompatibilities of the porous scaffolds, indirect cytotoxicity measurement of the scaffolds with human fibroblast indicated that the materials were non-toxic. |
