Amphiphilic polymers are widely utilized as a emulsifiers, dispersions stabilizers, compatiblizers. Among hydrophilic block, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) based system is intensively studied becaused of their water solubility, biocompatibility etc. in bio-application area. General synthetic methods of PEG based block copolymers are anionic polymerization or polymeric modification. Recently, atom transfer radical polymerizations (ATRP) are used in control of molecular architecture of some vinyl polymers because ATRP is controlled radical polymerizations. The general type of polymer structures used in bio-medical applications are linear or graft block copolymers. In this study, we introduced hyperbranched strucrures in PEG based amphiphilic copolymers system. The hyperbranched structures are introduced using ATRP of chloromethyl styrene as a AB type monomer. PEG macroinitiators are synthesized by the reaction of PEG with 2-bromopropionyl bromide. The synthesized amphiphilic copolymer was characterized by 1H-NMR. GPC etc. Also, the solution properties such as micell formation in water will be studied using spectroscopic method.
