Hysteresis-free organic field-effect transistors and inverters using photo-crosslinkable poly(vinyl cinnamate) as a gate dielectric |

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) have attracted the attention of many research groups in recent years because of their potential applications with low cost processing in large area and flexible electronics. However, the hysteresis behavior of OFETs observed for a full voltage sweep is still a serious obstacle to their commercial use. In the polymer gate dielectrics that are the most promising dielectric candidates for OFETs, the hydroxyl-like polar functional groups of the polymer are mainly responsible for the hysteresis, because these groups combine with water molecules in air and act as trap sites. In this study, hydroxyl group-free poly(vinyl cinnamate) (PVCN) was used as a gate dielectric in OFETs and inverters, and crosslinked by exposure to ultra-violet (UV) light. The electrical strength of the PVCN dielectric is significantly enhanced via photo-crosslinking. Moreover, these devices are hysteresis-free because PVCN is hydroxyl group-free. |
