In this study, microporous polypropylene(PP) membranes and PP membranes blended with linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) were prepared by TIPS process and supercritical extraction process. PP membranes and PP/LLDPE membranes were analyzed to investigate the effects of LLDPE concentration on structural formations and mechanical properties of membranes. From the analysis of SEM images for PP membranes and PP/LLDPE membranes, it is confirmed that the cross sections of the membranes have asymmetric and porous structures similar to sponge and the surface of the membranes showed relatively uniform pore distributions. On the other hand, from the measurements of tensile strength, PP/LLDPE membranes have the lower values than that of PP membranes. It appeared that the properties of PP/LLDPE were diminished because the compatibility between PP and LLDPE in blending is not good. Therefore, henceforth, it estimated that the mechanical properties of PP/LLDPE will be improved if the compatibilizer is utilized in blending. |
