Synthesis of Gold Plates Using Functionalized Polymer Microspheres |

Monosized functional polymer microspheres have been explored as a template and a reducing agent for the synthesis of gold plates. We discovered that the nucleation of gold ions was initinated on the surface of the functional polymer microspheres and it grew into plate shapes. The gold plates are single-crystal and preferentially grown in the direction along the Au (111) plane. The shapes of gold plates are mainly triangular, truncated triangular, and hexagonal. The polymer microspheres used were fabricated by dispersion polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate followed by modification with ethylenediamine. Gold ions are immobilized by the amine groups of the functional polymer microspheres and reduced thermal treatment. |
