This presentation gives a brief summary of research on CNT-based films, fibers and composites. Transferability of the exceptional properties of CNTs to the macroscopic properties depends on their dispersibility in common solvents and polymer matrices. CNTs can be dispersed in various organic media, such as organic solvents and polymer matrices by utilizing the interaction between CNTs and solvents, surfactants or salt/ionic liquids. Potential applications of CNT-based materials have been proposed in electrochemical storage (supercapacitors), actuators, chemical and bio sensors, gas storage, emission display devices, photovoltaic materials, electromagnetic interference shielding, thermal management, AFM probe tips, electrically and thermally conducting fibers for functional textiles, nanowires, nanoscopic levers and other components in molecular motors and molecular devices. In conclusion, CNTs are promising candidates for developing high performance functional materials. |
