제목 Hyperbranched poly(arylene ethers) : A2/B3 vs AB2 polymerization
초록 Hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) are receiving considerable attention as one of dendritic macromolecules with new applications such as micelles, liquid crystals, self-assemblies, sensors, electroluminescent devices, and catalysts. In many cases, HBPs can substitute their rivals, dendrimers with perfectly branched and monodisperse structures. Generally, HBPs are synthesized by the polymerization of AB2 type monomer or AB* type monomer. A2/B3 polymerization can be an alternative synthetic protocol for HBPs. A2 or B3 type monomer is more available compared with AB2 type monomer. Monomer purification and incorporation of further functionality is also easier because of the separation of A and B functional group in monomer stage. For the resulting HBPs from A2/B3 polymerization, the structural features resemble ideal hyperbranched polymers with branch-on-branch structure and low bulk/solution viscosity. Only one result demonstrates the detailed comparison of A2/B3 and AB2 polymerization. Segregation of linear units in the initial reaction plays a key role for the deviation of this A2/B3 polymerization from others. In this study, we prove for the first time that both AB2 and A2/B3 polymerization produces nearly same hyperbranched polymers in composition and structure in the synthesis of hyperbranched poly(arylene ethers).
