The conventional synthetic route for DMC is based on the methanolysis using poisonous phosgene. Therefore, direct synthesis of DMC from methanol and carbon dioxide has been recognized as an attractive method. The acivated methanol and CO2 form methoxy carbonate in basic site of the catalyst. The methoxy carbonate then reacts with methanol to form DMC and OH- in acidic site of the catalyst. For this reason, the effective catalyst in the direct synthesis of DMC from methanol and CO2 should retain both acidic and basic sites. In this work, a correlation between acid-base properties of catalyst and catalytic activity for DMC synthesis was established. |
