Steam reforming (SR) of dimethyl ether (DME) is one of prospective model reactions to produce hydrogen especially for fuel cells. The DME SR is a combined reaction of DME hydrolysis and methanol SR, together with reverse water gas reaction (RWGS). In this work hybrid nano-catalysts were prepared by mixing nano-porous solid acid catalysts (Al-SBA-15) for DME hydrolysis and nano-structured copper based catalyst (Cu/ZnO/Al2O3) for methanol SR. The overall reaction of DME SR is endothermic and the higher reaction temperature is favored for higher DME conversion and hydrogen yield. On the other hand the RWGS reaction is an equilibrium reaction, for which there is an optimum condition to minimize the CO selectivity. |
