제목 Constrained Dewetting of Grafted Polymers in Poor Solvents: From Pancake Micelles to the Holey Layer
초록 Using both theory and computer simulation we study the dewetting problem of a grafted polymer layer immersed in a poor solvent. For the first time, we find that in the regime of moderate grafting densities the layer is unstable to the formation of finite-sized holes. The formation of these holes is a result of the trade-off between minimal layer-surface energy and minimal tether penalty, thus giving an example of dewetting constrained by polymer stretching. We also examine the low-density case and find a new regime of pancake micelles where the average height of micelles decreases as grafting density increases. These theoretical predictions are compared to Monte Carlo simulations, where the qualitative agreement is found.
