Fabrication of porous polycaprolactone scaffolds using a rapid prototyping system |

A three-dimensional (3-D) scaffold is bio-engineered construct to guide cell growth and tissue development. An ideal 3-D scaffold should be needed to have the various requirements: (1) biocompatibility, (2) mechanical properties, (3) interconnected pore and porosity, (4) biodegradability, and (5) hydrophilicity. To obtain the optimal scaffold, we fabricated 3-D polycaprolactone scaffold using bioplotter as a rapid prototyping system. PCL strand from the bioplotter was ejected through heated nozzle and was plotted as layer by layer deposition on a stage. We analyzed the 3-D bioplotted-scaffold through the porosity and architecture, mechanical test, and the cell ingrowth. |
