To overcome drawbacks of PLA such as brittleness and low thermal property, we will modify poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) by blending PLLA resin with impact improved poly(D-lactide) (PDLA)/clay nanocomposites. In this study, for the preparation of PDLA/clay nanocomposites, we synthesized various kinds of organifiers having reactive hydroxyl groups and different soft segments such as poly(tetramethylene ether glycol), poly(ethylene adipate) diol and polycaprolactone diol. And then, we prepared organoclays by cation exchange reaction of pristine MMT (Cloisite Na+) with above various kinds of organifiers. After that, we prepared impact improved PDLA/clay nanocomposites by in-situ ring-opening polymerization of D-lactide with organoclays as macro-initiator in the presence of catalyst. Morphologies, crystallization behaviors and mechanical properties of PDLA/clay nanocomposites will be investigated by using SEM, TEM, XRD, DSC, TGA, optical microscopy and universal test machine. |
