A polymer based on 2-octyl-5,6-bis-octyloxy-2H-benzotriazole and thiophene (PTBTz) was synthesized and characterized as an active layer for OTFTs and OPVs. PTBTz showed a planar structure and good solubility in organic solvents due to the octyloxy substituents, and exhibited high hole mobility of ~0.07 cm2/Vs in a OTFT device. The number-average molecular weight (Mn) was determined to be 80,000 g/mol (PDI: 1.62) and the optical band gap of the polymer was estimated to be 1.99 eV. When the polymer was blended with PCBM, PTBTz exhibited the promising photovoltaic performance with an open circuit voltage of 0.68 V, short-circuit current of 4.7 mA/cm2, fill factor of 0.60, and the resulting power conversion efficiency of 2.0 %. |
