Crystallographic Studies of FAU Zeolites |

Faujasites of different Si/Al ratios are widely utilizing because of their catalytic, sorptive, and ion-exchange properties. However the studies of zeolites have been limited to those properties which could be studied with relatively small crystals since sufficient quantities of larger crystals have not been readily available. Precise determination of cation locations by X-ray diffraction requires single-crystals 100 to 200 μm. Large single crystals of faujasite-type zeolites (Si/Al = 1.0 ~ 3.0) with diameters up to 100 μm were synthesized from gels with the composition 7.52NaOH : xNaAlO2 : ySiO2 : 454H2O : 5TEA. The resulted single crystals of FAU-type zeolites were characterized by SEM-EDS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. |
