After scientists at the Bayer AG research laboratories in Germany developed a new polythiophene derivatives, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) has attracted the interest of thousands of scientists because of its many favorable properties which include a reduced band gap, low oxidation potential for conversion to conducting state, and high stability in the conducting form. But its bad solubility was one big obstacle to apply to many other usage. To improve solubility of this materials, we synthesized dialkylated 3,4-propylenedioxythiophene(ProDOT-R2) and performed the polymerization with FeCl3 to get poly(3,4-propylenedioxythiophene). The electronic and other physical properties of this regiosymmetric polymer will be presented. |
