Role of Ionic Liquids in Silver Polymer Electrolytes and its Application to Facilitated Olefin Transport |
초록 |
We report on successful use of ionic liquid in silver polymer electrolytes in controlling ionic interactions and its application to facilitated olefin transport. Among various silver salts capable of forming silver-olefin complex, AgBF4 was commonly used due to the most active carrier property with respect to olefin molecules. However, AgBF4 is also liable to be the most easily converted into silver nanoparticles, resulting in deterioration of performance. Therefore it is desirable to take the silver salt with the high lattice energy such as AgNO3 in terms of prevention of silver reduction, but it is inactive olefin carrier in solid polymer electrolyte membranes. Ionic liquids composed of 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium cation (BMIM+) and nitrate (NO3-) anions or (BF4-) anions were introduced to silver polymer electrolytes consisting of silver ions dissolved in poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (POZ). We are successful in producing enhancement of silver ion activity by introducing ionic liquid. In detail, the POZ/AgNO3/BMIM+NO3- electrolyte shows a stable separation performance up to a continuous operation for 150 hours, during which most POZ/AgBF4 membranes deteriorate its separation performance seriously. The improved separation performance would be associated with the enhancement of the olefin carrier activity of Ag+ for facilitated olefin transport by the ionic liquid. These results are believed to be obtained by the diminished interaction of silver cations with counteranions due to the electrostatic interaction of the counteranions with BMIM+ of ionic liquid and by the elevation of polymer chain flexibility. |
