We synthesized Nafion nanocomposite membrane to bestow proton conductivity at high temperatures. Up to the present, this membrane has been applicable to DMFC but it may be applicable to PEMFC in this study. To introduce inorganic materials into hydrophilic channels of Nafion, 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) reacted with sulfuric acid groups of Nafion directly. And then, we substituted phosphoric acid groups for amino groups of APTES. Synthetic procedure was modified for preventing separation of phases. To be blended well, we increased the span of time in stirring and applied somewhat heat. To ensure, chemical and physical stability as well as a good performance at high temperatures should be points to be considered. So, it is the most important to optimize the ratio of Nafion to APTES. Therefore, Nafion nanocomposite membrane showed high conductivity (~0.05 S/cm at 110 ℃) and had good cell performance at high temperatures. |
