Graphene sheets offer extraordinary electronic, thermal and mechanical properties. These properties seem to make this material an excellent candidate for applications in various polymer composites. In this study, a detailed analysis of the thermal and chemical expansion mechanism of graphite oxide to produce fuctionalized graphene sheets is provided. We make graphene-polymer composites via complete exfoliation of graphite and dispersion of individual, chemically modified graphene sheet within polymer. Graphene sheets compounded with polystylene and the physical properties of the composites are evaluated with the content of graphene in terms of flexural modulus, strength, and electric conductivity. |
