Preparation of the Drug Loaded Covered Porous PLGA Microparticles for Drug Carrier |

Poly(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) is the most widely used synthetic biodegradable biomaterials, including drug carriers. In this study, drug loaded covered porous PLGA microparticles were manufactured using solvent evaporation method. A hydrogen peroxide as a porogen and catalase provided oxygen bubbles thus many internal pores within microparticles were naturally developed. The cover of particles was formed when the re-emulsification and solvent evaporation process. It may serve as a protective barrier in controlling the initial burst of drug. Contributing factors including ratio of PLGA, H2O2, PVA and temperature would result in different process mechanism that caused morphological difference. The particle size and porosity were characterized by scanning electron microscope. The drug loading efficiency and release pattern were determined using UV spectrometer. We anticipate that this system presents its potential as fabricating the covered drug loaded microparticles for drug delivery. |
