Reactive mesogen (RM) as a polymerizable liquid crystal (LC) material is suitable for the fabrication of birefringent films. In particular, UV-curable RM molecules can be self-orientated along a surface alignment layer on a substrate and then by exposing UV light, the RM monomers can be crosslinked to produce the film with maintaining the orientation. In this study, we introduced the non-reactive LC mixtures to the UV-curable RM to increase the refractive indices and birefringence. The birefringence of RM/non-reactive LC mixtures was determined by orientation conditions. The molecular orientations of RM/non-reactive LC mixtures by temperature, UV irradiation, and the content ratio of RM/non-reactive LC mixtures were studied using spectroscopic techniques. Also, the morphology, birefringence, and retardation change were confirmed. |
