Miscibility of homoblends based on ethyl acrylate (PEA) ionomers containing acrylate and itaconate ionic groups was studied dynamic mechanically. In the case of ionomer blends containing 6 mol% of ionic repeat units, two cluster Tgs were found when the amount of one component was comparable to that of the other. This implies that these ionomers are relatively immiscible. However, the ion content of the ionomers increased to ca. 12 mol%, the cluster Tg of the itaconate ionomers shifted to lower temperatures with increasing amount of the PEA ionomer containing acrylate ionic groups. Thus, when itaconate content was over 50 wt%, only one cluster Tg was observed. Thus, it was speculated that at high ion contents the ionic interactions became more important factors to improve the miscibility of the PEA ionomer blends.
