제목 Interfacial Evaluation and Microfailue Mechanisms of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy-Amine Terminated Polyetherimide (PEI) Composites with Curing Agents using Micromechanical Test
초록 The possibility for improving the toughness using a commercial grade PEI to toughen epoxy resin has been investigated widely. It showed that the stress transfer from the matrix to fiber in epoxy-PEI composite occurred efficiently because of homogeneous phase separation with PEI particles in epoxy matrix. Amine terminate (AT) PEI was synthesized for improving fracture toughness and interfacial adhesion. Nadic methyl anhydride (NMA) and diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) were used as curing agents for epoxy matrix. Interfacial properties and microfailure modes of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy-AT PEI composite were investigated using micromechanical test. Matrix fracture toughness was measured by three-point short beam test. Mechanical and interfacial properties of epoxy-AT PEI with curing agents were correlated with matrix toughness. As AT PEI content increased, the fracture toughness and IFSS increased gradually. Amine groups in AT PEI may contribute to the improvement in IFSS by chemical interaction.
