제목 | Surface morphology of UHMWPE powders modified different PMMA / MMA ratios and mechanical properties of the new bone cement containing them |
초록 | Although bone cement is nontoxic biomaterial in the body for fixing bone and metal prosthesis, it has the main disadvantage because of weak mechanical properties. To overcome this problem, the use of UHMWPE is introduced. But, this is the inertness of surface and so it is difficult to adhere to the other materials. In our present study, MMA monomer and PMMA powder were used to modify the surface of UHMWPE powder. PMMA powder is an additive for chemical bonding between two materials, MMA monomer is a swelling agent for surface of the UHMWPE powder. SEM, FTIR-ATR, UTM were utilized to analyze the mechanical properties of the modified bone cement. In conclusion, most of samples were much the same tensile strength like commercial bone cement. Among them, when PMMA / MMA ratio is 0.5g : 40ml, it characterized the best tensile strength. And also, it was confirmed that the surface of UHMWPE was modified through SEM observation.
