Studies on cancer selective internalization have been conducted for reducing the side effects of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Hydrophilic photosensitizers (HP) are appropriate wavelength light susceptible molecules that are essential for PDT. However, the HP does not have cancer selective targeting ability, which it accumulated in extensively various tissues accompany with side effect of phototoxicity. In order to solve this limitation, we selected folate, which has been established to be an effective cancer targeting moiety. Herein, we created two types of cancer-selectable HPs conjugated with folate (HP2KF and HP4KF). HP4KF exhibited a folate receptor-mediated cancer-selective cellular uptake and induces apoptosis. The folate receptor mediated cancer-selective internalization of HP4KF was confirmed by competitive interaction in breast cancer. We believe that HP4KF will be novel material in cancer therapy. |
