Polyaniline (PANI) emeraldine base (EB) powder (Mw=65,000 g/mol) was mixed with camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) in molar ratio of 1:0.5 in mortar under nitrogen atmosphere. The PANI-CSA with 4.0, 2.0 and 1.0wt% was dissolved in m-cresol. The PANI-CSA solution was dropcast directly onto fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate to use as counter electrodes (CEs) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The CEs was dried in an oven at 100 oC for 12 h. While the power conversion efficiencies of DSSCs made of PANI-EB was 0.2%, the DSSCs made of PANI-CSA of 4.0, 2.0 and 1.0wt% exhibited power conversion efficiencies of 2.6, 2.8 and 3.5% under standard AM 1.5 sunlight illumination, respectively. Higher efficiency of PANI-CSA than that of PANI-EB might be due to the semi-conductivity resulted from the structure of emeraldine salt by protonation of PANI-EB chains. |
