Electrospun ZnO/TiO2 Composite Nanofibers for Biocidal Application |

Novel ZnO/TiO2 composite nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning and the average diameter of the ZnO/TiO2 nanofibers was approximately 100 nm and the length was longer than 50 µm. The synthesized composite nanofibers demonstrated the enhanced photocatalytic antibacterial performance against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus under UV irradiation compared with pristine TiO2 nanofibers. Moreover, the ZnO/TiO2 composite nanofibers displayed antibacterial activity in the absence of light irradiation because the ZnO part had antimicrobial properties without light. Therefore the ZnO/TiO2 composite nanofibers are depicted as a promising candidate for exceptional antibacterial agents under UV light and in the absence of light. |
