The blends of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) (PPE)/nylon 66 composites with compatibilizer were prepared by melt compounding. Halogen free flame retardant, phosphinate was incorporated into the compatibilized blends. The impact and tensile strength were deteriorated with increasing the flame retardant while the tensile modulus increased. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) images showed the good dispersion of flame retardant in the blends without the agglomerate, more suitable conditions for reducing the flammability. UL94V, limiting oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter measurements were carried out to evaluate the flame retardancy of the blends. Rheological characterization of the blends was conducted under nitrogen atmosphere using the universal dynamic spectrometer (UDS). |
