Synthesis and Characterization of Hydrophilic Acrylic Polymers via Radical-Polymerization |

Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives (acrylic PSAs) with a low glass transition temperature are used as pressure sensitive adhesives in various application fields, such as electronics, automobiles, office automation, packing and daily necessities. Acrylic PSAs are made from higher alky esters of acrylate without need of tackifiers and provide excellent physical properties. Monomer composition and molecular weight of the polymer determine most of the adhesive’s properties. In this study, we synthesized with hydrophilic acrylic PSAs that is applicable to medical patches. The hydrophilicity of acrylic PSAs was controlled by ratio of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). Synthesized acrylic polymer were characterized using Fourier Transfer Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (FT-NMR), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Peel Tester and Contact Angles analyzer. |
