제목 MULTIFUNCTIONAL POLYMERIC MICELLES FOR THE APPLICATIONS OF DRUG ENCAPSULATION AND RELEASE
초록 The nanostructures and photophysical properties of polymeric micelles self-assembled from multifunctional amphiphilic block copolymers were investigated in this work. Desired functionalities were introduced to the micelles by tailoring suitable pendent moities on the copolymers. The stimuli-responsive moities enabled the nanostructure of polymeric micelles to be sensitive to different stimuli, such as temperature, pH, and irradiation. In addition, a fluorescent pendent group with the special characteristic of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) was introduced in the hydrophobic block, and the fluorescent micelles can be used in tracking the destination of micelles. These multifunctional polymeric micelles were utilized as nanocarriers for the encapsulation of a hydrophobic and fluorescent cancer drug, doxorubicin (Dox), and the potential applications in controlled drug release and in monitoring the drug release were explored. The release of Dox encapsulated in the dual-sensitive polymeric micelles can be triggered by desired stimuli. On the other hand, due to the spectral overlap between the emission of AIE moieties and the absorption of Dox, the Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) from AIE moieties to the Dox encapsulated in the micelles facilitates the indication of successful encapsulation of Dox in the core of polymeric micelles. Consequently, the release of Dox from fluorescent polymeric micelles can be monitored by the disappearance of FRET.
