Water Dispersable Shell Cross-Linked Nanoparticles using Polystyrene-b-Poly(acrylic acid) Block Copolymer |

Water-dispersed NPs are attracting considerable interests in biological applications. A major challenge in biological applications of NPs is how to disperse NPs in aqueous media. Though various approaches have been reported for the dispersion of NPs in water, it remains challenge to develop a general method to stably disperse NPs in aqueous media. In this presentation, we will discuss aqueous dispersion of NPs using PS-b-PAA and their cross-linking reactions. When PS-b-PAA and NPs were dissolved together in THF, the addition of water caused the spontaneous formation of polymeric micelles, resulting in the successful encapsulation and aqueous dispersion of NPs. PAA on the outside of micellar aggregations were cross-linked by amidation of carboxylic group with diamine using EDC coupling method. The morphology of the cross-linked micellar aggregates remains intact in water and in THF. The structure and their cross-linked products were characterized by TEM, FT-IR, and AFM. |
