Polymeric gas barrier films play a role in pharmaceuticals, flexible electronics (organic light-emitting diode, liquid–crystal display, solar cells), and food packaging industries. The use of synthetic polymers is ubiquitous in food packaging where they provide mechanical, chemical, and microbial protection from the environment and allow product display. Polymers most frequently used in food packaging are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). But their gas barrier properties are poor; this disadvantage limits their application in food packaging. Enhancing these poor properties would be a challenge. In this work, we have tried to improve of water and oxygen barrier properties, high transparency, and flexibility by using aluminium-sol. The aluminium/poly(vinylalcohol) nanocomposite films were prepared to reduce the gas inflow by interactions between polymer matrix and aluminium-sol. |
