A polycarbonate (PC) is a transparent engineering plastic. It is well known that this amorphous polymer has good properties. But PC has some disadvantages. According to previous studies, copolymerization with polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) oligomer was used to improve the thermal stability, flame retardancy, and low temperature toughness. High intensity ultrasonic waves are generally applicable on industry such as cleaning, plastic welding, machining, etc. What is more, ultrasound was used as an initiator in radical polymerization. If polymer melt is subjected to irradiation of high intensity ultrasonic wave, main chain scission of polymer occurs and consequently the macroradicals are generated. In the progress on mixing PC and PDMS which has divinyl group, ultrasound was induced. Ultrasound generated macro radicals, and then PC/PDMS copolymer was created. To confirm the effect of ultrasound on the processing, the rheological, thermal, and mechanical properties were measured. |
