The introduction of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). However, water-based resins with ionic group in the main chain has been used mainly, and consequently mechanical strength and elasticity are excellent, but they has relatively lacking properties compared to conventional resin. To prevent corrosion, the coating resin on steel should have good adhesion and flexibility for improving the corrosion resistance. In addition, it should have enough strength. Acrylic resin has had excellent corrosion resistance, flexibility and adhesion to prevent the occurrence of cracks or detachment at processing of steel. So in this study, to solve VOC problem and improve the lacking properties of aqueous polyurethane, the waterborne polyurethane-acrylic (WPUA) copolymer was synthesized. |
