Organic photovoltaic (OPV) technology has received great attention during the past years because of the possibility of a low-cast, lightweight, and flexible thin film device application toward inexhaustible renewable clean energy. The most extensively investigated organic materials for OPVs are low-band gap conjugated polymers that contain the electron-rich and electron-deficient units on the polymer backbone. Several low-band gap polymers have been utilized for OPVs with power conversion efficiency over 7%. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of benzotriazole-containing small molecules and polymers that contain different ratios of carbazole donors to benzotriazole acceptors. |
