Photonic band gap (PBG) materials have been widely investigated on account of their unique optical properties and potential applications in the field of telecommunication, electronics and sensors. Up to date, various fabrication methods of PBG materials have been developed including photolithography, colloidal particle assembly and self-assembly of block copolymers. Herein, we report a novel approach for fabricating 1D PBG materials from relatively small molecular weight block copolymers. Our approach relies on the fixation of photonic gels with inorganic particles after swelling photonic gels with opulence solvent. Using this method, we successfully demonstrated that various PBG materials showing stop bands at visible wavelength region can be easily fabricated from block copolymers having small molecular weights which originally don’t show any stop band at visible wavelength region. |
