Functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by ring-opening polymerization |
초록 |
In this study, covalent functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was accomplished by surface-initiated epoxide ring-opening polymerization. FT-IR spectra showed that polyalcohol and epoxide group covalently attached to the side walls of MWCNTs. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis (EA) results indicated that the polyalcohol was successfully grown from the MWCNT surface, with the final products having a polymer weight percentage of ca. 14-74 wt%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of functionalized MWCNTs exhibited that the tubes were enwrapped by polymer chains with thickness of several nanometers, forming core-shell structures with MWCNTs at the center. |
