제목 Temperature dependent Raman spectroscopic study of a nematic liquid crystalline thin film of 5CB (4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl)
초록 Recently much attention has been paid to study liquid crystalline molecules due to its applications in the display area. The phase transitions and structure of a nematic liquid crystalline thin film of 5CB (4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl) surfaces has been investigated by means of temperature dependent Raman spectroscopy. The frequency shift and peak splitting of the cyano group indicates a substantial structural change of 5CB depending on temperature. The phase transitions of 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl(PCN) have been studied by means of temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopy in the range between –70 and 70 °C. The ν(CN) band in the Raman spectrum is found to split at 25 °C from the solid to the netmatic phase. The interfacial structures of PCN have been investigated by surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). On Ag and Au, asymmetric shapes of the ν(CN) bands at low temperature suggest that there should be at least two different binding schemes for the solid PCN. These bands however became quite symmetric in increasing temperature.
