Dimethyl ether (DME) carbonylation to form methyl acetate (MA), which can be used as chemical intermediates for the production of ethanol, was carried out using lab-made H-form Ferrierite (FER). The FER via a recrystallization route using the previously synthesized FER seed showed an enhanced catalytic activity and stability. It was mainly attributed to the increased crystallinity and selective suppression of strong acid sites. The highly crystalline FER also revealed a less coke deposition and catalyst deactivation. To confirm the effects of crystallinity of FER, various seed zeolites such as Y, ZSM-5, MOR were applied for a seeding material during recrystallization of FER. The properties of the FER zeolites were analyzed by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, and pyridine-IR and coke analysis. |
