Pyridyl-imine based Ni(II) complexes active for ethylene dimerization and trimerization |

Electrophilic substitution mediated by n-butyl lithium of 2-phenyl pyridine produced different carbonyl substitutions at 2’-position which on condensation with 2,6-diisopropyl aniline give different pyridyl-imine ligands. On metallation with (DME)NiBr2 these ligands produced three different Ni complexes. When activated in chlobenzene with ethylaluminum sesquichloride (EASC) complexes were found highly active in ethylene oligomerization reactions. Detailed analysis of the oligomers revealed dimerization and trimerization products are the main contents. |
