Steady progress has been made in recent years in the design of materials for application in planar light circuits. Polymer optical waveguides have attracted considerable attention for application due to their easily tunable optical properties, their processing flexibility and their low processing cost. For efficient wave-guiding in a wide wavelength range, the refractive index difference between the core and clad layers should be large enough for efficient light confinement to occur in the wave-guiding layer. Various polymeric materials have been used as core or clad components in waveguiding devices. fluorinated polymers are considered as an attractive class of materials for optical waveguides as they show relatively low optical losses in waveguiding devices. We have developed monoacrylic monomer, diacrylic monomer, triacrylic monomer containing fluorine and studied on the refractive index and optical losses in devices. |
