The conversion of biomass into commodity chemicals has attracted many researchers with the increased demand for sustainable resources. Adipic acid is one of the popular chemicals which can be applied to bio-poly amide. Despite many results reported by various research groups, which includes microbial oxidation of sugar compounds, there still remains challenge for industries to economically apply the lab-scale synthetic method to a large scale production. Previously, large scale oxidation of d-galactose, which is abundant in marine biomass, has been reported by our research group. Efforts for finding the optimum conditions of the subsequent reaction steps to obtain adipic acid from d-galactose have been put. This time, we would like to report catalytic hydrogenation of muconic acid under mild reaction condition with high yield which successfully showed full conversion up to 1g scale. |
