Interfacial Evaluation and Microfailure Mechanisms of Single Fiber/Epoxy composites using Micromechanical Techniques at room and low temperatures |

The comparison of inherent and interfacial properties of carbon or glass fibers reinforced epoxy composites were evaluated at room temperature and low temperature as prelimary work for cryogenic temperature environment. Statistical distribution of tensile strengths of glass and carbon fibers were compared for different temperature ranges. Under tensile and compressive loading conditions, modulus of epoxy at low temperature was higher than those at room temperature. Interfacial shear strength between fibers and epoxy matrix at normal atmospheric and low temperature were compared each other. Microfailure patterns at the interface including slippage and matrix crack were also observed and compared at different temperature conditions.
