Recently, nanocarriers have provided a new platform for selective delivery in the cancer treatment area. Especially, photodynamic therapy (PDT) with photosensitizer (PS) is becoming widely known for its application in cancer therapy. The selectively accumulated PS like pheophorbide a (Pheo) in tumor site destroy the cells by apoptosis and necrosis. Here we developed AuNR-PS conjugates with disulfide bond for selective targeting. In addition, this AuNR-based nanocarrier can also be used as photothermal therapy (PTT) because it emits heat to the surroundings by near-infrared (NIR) light. AuNRs with various aspect ratios were synthesized and FA-PEG copolymers were used for surface modification. Their physicochemical properties, singlet oxygen generation, drug release and photothermal activities were investigated. Also, in vitro phototoxicity and cellular uptake were evaluated against MCF7 and A549 cell lines. |
