Diblock copolymers composed of two different polymers spontaneously phase-separate into structures in the nanometer scale, whether in bulk or in solution. In a selective solvent for one of the blocks, for example, diblock copolymers self-assemble into nanometer-sized micelles consisting of a soluble corona and an insoluble core. A single-layered film of diblock copolymer micelles can be also prepared by spin coating. Solvent vapor treatment on the micellar single layer can improve a long-range order of micelles on the substrate. Moreover, hierarchical nanostructures of lamellae (or cylinders) with micelles of diblock copolymers can be produced by solvent annealing. In this presentation, complex nanostructures of lamellae and micelles of diblock copolymers will be introduced. In addition, optical characteristics of one-dimensional photonic crystals of lamellar-forming diblock copolymers containing micelles of diblock copolymers will be discussed. |
