The optimized performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on nano-structured TiO2 anode materials is mainly determined by the electrical conductivity of the nano-structured TiO2 thin film, once the porosity of this thin film is appropriately defined. Because the one-dimensional nanostructures can be effectively engineered to provide an improved electrical conductivity, we propose TiO2/carbon coaxial structured nano-fibers (NFs) as an anode material of DSSCs. We fabricated these coaxial NFs based on an electrospinning technique as follows. Firstly, in the electrospun coaxial NFs titanium isopropoxide (TIP) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were placed in the shell while polyacrylonitrile (PAN) in the core. After sintering the electrospun NFs at 500 °C for 2 hours in air, the anatase TiO2 NFs were formed in the shell layer covering core carbon, which were subsequently carbonized from PAN in the core at 1000 °C for 2 hours in nitrogen. |
