Sustained Drug Release on Temperature-sensitive PNIPAm-integrated Hydroxyapatite |

The hybrid temperature-sensitive hydroxyapatite-poly(N-isopropylacryl amide) (HAP-PNIPAm) gels have been synthesized by the interpenetration of PNIPAm into a sintered HAP disk through a radical-initiated polymerization of NIPAm monomer under nitrogen atmosphere. These gels were characterized by instrumental analysis including IR, DRIPT-UV, XRD, and BET. Drug release experiment was investigated by stepwise temperature changes between 25 and 40℃. PNIPAm-HAP shows sustained positive thermo-sensitive drug release profile over a month at PBS buffer when the temperature was maintained above the LCST. The sustained release is caused by the attractive interaction between calcium ion in HAP and carboxylate of drug(indomethacin). This concept can be applied for biodegradable polymers in osteophoresis. |
