Fe(II) and manganese oxides with various oxidation state were reacted with Ca(OH)2. XRD analysis indicatedmaghemite (γ-Fe2O3, ID 39-1346) on MnO, magnetite(Fe3O4, ID 01-1111) on MnO2, and hematite (α-Fe2O3, ID 03-0812) on Mn2O3.Moreover, lime (CaO, ID 03-1123) was also observed on Mn2O3. However, Mn-Fe complex like jacobsite wasnotdetected. To assess those catalysts, decomposition of hydrogen peroxide at pH 7 was conducted. The higher rate constants were earned with Mn2O3 independent on the synthesis methods, and the highest rate constant was 0.030 min-1 when NaOH was used instead of Ca(OH)2. In the future, degradation of organic contaminants at various pHs will be investigated in the systems containing oxidants and those synthesized catalysts. |
