Effect of Cobalt on The Microstructure of Melt-Spun Al-30Si-5Fe Alloys |
초록 |
Application Al-Si alloys are widely used in automotive and aeroscope industries due to their higher strength, good wear resistance and low thermal expansion co-efficient. Al-30Si-5Fe-XCo (X=0, 1, 3, 5) alloys were produced by melt-spinning at 20m/s disc velocity. The microstructures of the melt-spun ribbons were investigated using X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Vickers microhardness tester was used to observe the changing tendency of hardness with the addition of Co. To be able to see the effect of Co on the intermetallics and Si phases, a deep chemical etching was performed. The microstructure of the base alloy (without presence of Co) consisted of featureless and dendritic zones. In the base alloy, while the morphology of primary Si phases were rosette –like, there were not any needle -like intermetallic compounds. With the addition of 1 % wt. Co, needle-like intermetallic compounds became apparent and the Si phases got coarser. 3 %wt. Co addition brought about a wider featureless zone, smaller needle-like intermtallics and spherical fine Si phases. When 5 %wt. Co was added to Al-30Si-5Fe, it was hindered to be formed needle-like intermetallics and the microsturcture totally consisted of spherical grains which have seaweed-like fibrous structure on their surface. Although, the hardness values decreased with addition of 1 % wt. Co, they started to increase with Co addition and the highest hardness value were obtained by 5 % wt. Co |
