We have manufactured linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE)-based nanocomposite films containing different exfoliated graphite(EG) contents via melt-compounding/compression method and investigated their morphology, structures, thermal transitions, thermal stability, mechanical modulus, and electrical resistivity as a function of EG content. It is found that graphene nanosheets of EG are well dispersed in LLDPE matrix. DSC data support that graphene nanosheets serve as nucleating agents for LLDPE crystallization. In addition, thermal stability of the nanocomposite films is significantly improved by the introduction of the graphene nanosheets. Electrical resistivity of the nanocomposite films is also substantially decreased with the increment of the EG content. It is considered that LLDPE/EG nanocomposites can be used as packaging films, fibers, and plastics in advanced applications requiring high performances in thermal stability, mechanical properties, and electrostatic dissipation. |
